Cosmetic rhinoplasty is just that, cosmetic. It isn't for broken noses, breathing problems,or congenital defects. It's just so you can look better, and there is nothing wrong with wanting to improve your appearance. While some celebrities have taken it to the extreme, the average person just wants to feel better about their appearance. A little tweak can be a huge confidence builder. Nose jobs comprise a large percentage of cosmetic procedures. Society matrons are not the only ones looking for a new nose. Many young people, even teens are intersted in having their noses done. Certainly you would want to thoroughly discuss it before allowing a young girl or boy to have surgery, but once they are in heir mid to late teens, it's an option. The surgery has relatively few complications, with only about twenty percent of patients requiring an additional surgery. It is considered to be one of the safest in terms of plastic surgery.

You will go to surgeon for a consultation and people are encouraged to be very clear about what they expect the outcome to be. Many surgeons have computer programs that allow you to see how you will look after surgery. Most also encourage you to bring in photos of what you may like. Keep in mind that not all of what you want may be realistic or even possible, but it will be taken into consideration. You will have measurements and photos taken of your face from several angles. The surgeon can then make recommendations about how to get what you want and make it flatter your other features. The nose, being in the center of your face, can dominate your total look and sometimes just a small change can make a really big difference. Plastic surgery is much more socially acceptable than in years past and people of different ethnicities are a whole new market. With the available payment plans through some surgeons and even medical finance companies, it is more attainable for the average person.

Costs can be as little as thousand dollars and upwards of fifteen thousand for more complicated case. There are facility fees, anesthesia fees, labwork, and prescriptions to consider. Cosmetic rhinoplasty can make your nose smaller, refine the tip, narrow the bridge or nostrils, remove lumps, and straighten a crooked nose. Augmentation rhinoplasty uses your own tissue or sometimes plastics to sculpt the nose into the desired shape. This is often used in Asian and African American patients. There are non-surigal options such as injections of silicone, but the results are not long lasting and will require redoing in six to twelve months. Some doctors use saline injections to show you how you will look with augmentation. That is not a treament, just a tool to show the patient what is possible.

Most cosmetic rhinoplasty is done on an outpatient basis in a hospital, office or plastic surgery center. Most patients are able to return home once the anesthetic has worn off. It is advisable to have someone to drive you home and to stay at least twenty four hours in case of any adverse reactions. The recovery period is from ten days to three weeks, with most people returning to work in that period of time. Bruising and swelling start to subside after a week or so and while your final results are apparent in about 2 weeks, you may notice small changes over the next six to twelve months.
